POLICY ANNEX PA3/7:
AREAS OF LOCAL LANDSCAPE IMPORTANCE

a. BIDBOROUGH RIDGE, TONBRIDGE: a prominent landscape feature which encloses Tonbridge to the south and maintains its setting both close-up and as viewed from the Greensand Ridge to the north;

b. BETWEEN TONBRIDGE AND HAYSDEN: a pleasant area of farmland providing an attractive setting to the hamlet of Haysden and its Conservation Area;

c. VAUXHALL/PRIORY WOOD, TONBRIDGE: open areas which help to maintain the rural fringe setting of Tonbridge to the south, especially as viewed from the east along the A21;

d. SOMERHILL PARK, TONBRIDGE: landscaped parkland giving an attractive setting to the south east of Tonbridge;

e. THE SPORTSGROUND, TONBRIDGE: an area rural in character which extends the countryside into the heart of the town. The open character and trees around the fringe form an attractive foreground setting to the central parts of Tonbridge;

f. LAND IN VICINITY OF 'FOXBUSH' (SACKVILLE SCHOOL) AND 'MOUNTAINS', HILDENBOROUGH: an area of wooded and landscaped parkland now partly in agricultural use, which maintains the setting of Hildenborough village on its southern side, especially on approaching from the west and contributing to the setting of Hildenborough Conservation Area;

g. WEST WOOD, HILDENBOROUGH: a wooded area which provides an attractive setting to the urban area of Hilden Park and Hildenborough village;

h. HILDEN/TRENCH FARMS, TONBRIDGE: a large area of rolling countryside providing attractive rural settings for Tonbridge, Hilden Park, Hildenborough and the hamlet of Coldharbour;

i. HILDENBOROUGH RECREATION GROUND AND ADJACENT LAND TO THE NORTH: a rural area providing an attractive foreground setting to Hildenborough village on its northern approaches;

j. STARVECROWWOOD/CARROTY WOOD/FROGBRIDGE WOOD, TONBRIDGE: a densely wooded ridge enclosing and concealing the northern limits of the built-up area of Tonbridge and maintaining its rural setting;

k. SOUTH OF HADLOW/BOURNE VALLEY: an open area which provides a rural foreground setting to Hadlow village, and views of Hadlow Tower, from the south west;

l. BETWEEN EAST PECKHAM AND SNOLL HATCH: an open area which provides a rural setting to both settlements;

m. BETWEEN HALE STREET, EAST PECKHAM AND THE PROPOSED HALE STREET BYPASS: an open area maintaining the rural settings of the settlements;

n. BETWEEN HALE STREET AND THE BYPASS: open land maintaining the rural setting of Hale Street;

o. WEST OF FEN POND ROAD, IGHTHAM: an area of attractive countryside contributing to the sylvan setting of Ightham village and its Conservation Area as viewed from the A25;

p. BETWEEN BOROUGH GREEN AND IGHTHAM: an area of woodland, open countryside and mineral workings contributing to the rural character of these settlements as viewed from the A25 and A227;

q. STADDLES WOOD AND LAND SOUTH OF BLACK HORSE MEADOW, BOROUGH GREEN: an area of open land and woodland forming a prominent feature on the skyline important to the landscape setting of Borough Green;

r. BETWEEN BOROUGH GREEN AND PLATT: an open area providing an important rural setting to both rural settlements and Platt Conservation Area;

s. BETWEEN PLATT AND WROTHAM HEATH: a predominantly wooded area providing a sylvan setting to the rural settlements, with Potters Hole Wood in particular forming a prominent feature on rising ground;

t. BETWEEN PLATT VILLAGE AND PLATT INDUSTRIAL ESTATE: a prominent break between the built-up areas which contributes to the setting of Platt and offers long distance views from the rural settlement across to the North Downs;

u. BETWEEN WROTHAM AND THE BYPASS: a rural and parkland area providing an attractive setting to Wrotham and its Conservation Area;

v. BETWEEN BOROUGH GREEN AND WROTHAM: an open area of agricultural land and education uses providing a rural setting to both settlements;

w. BETWEEN SNODLAND AND THE FORMER HOLBOROUGH CEMENT WORKS: an area of open land affording views of the North Downs from the built up area and enhancing the setting of Snodland from the north;

x. LEYBOURNE LAKES: an attractive area of former mineral workings containing trees and extensive water areas contributing to the settings of the Medway Gap urban area and Snodland;

y. WEST OF THE MEDWAY GAP URBAN AREA: an attractive area of lakes, parkland and woodland which defines and conceals the western limit of the Medway Gap urban area and also contributes to the setting of West Malling from the north and Leybourne Grange;

z. BETWEEN EAST MALLING, WEST MALLING AND THE MEDWAY GAP URBAN AREA: an area of mainly open uses which provides an attractive rural setting to these built-up areas and the Conservation Areas they contain;

aa. BETWEEN WEST MALLING/ST LEONARDS STREET AND WEST MALLING BYPASS: an attractive area of orchards, oasts and parkland important to the setting of West Malling, St Leonards Street, St Leonards Tower and Douces Manor and West Malling Conservation Area;

ab. BETWEEN EAST MALLING AND KINGS HILL: a mainly open area which provides an important rural setting to East Malling and the Conservation Areas of Mill Street, East Malling and New Barns/Broadwater Farm and conceals views of development at Kings Hill from the south;

ac. BETWEEN A26, WEST PECKHAM AND YOTES COURT: an area of fields and woodland providing an attractive rural setting to the village and Yotes Court Conservation Area;

ad. SOUTH OF WATERINGBURY: an area providing views across the Mill Stream Valley and an attractive rural setting to Wateringbury and its Conservation Area;

ae. EAST OF WATERINGBURY: an open area providing attractive views of the Medway Valley and contributing to the rural setting of Wateringbury from the east;

af. WEST OF AYLESFORD PRIORY: an open area which maintains the rural setting of The Friars from the west;

ag. BETWEEN AYLESFORD VILLAGE AND AYLESFORD FORSTAL: an area of open land which maintains the rural setting of Aylesford from the east;

ah. BETWEEN ROCHESTER ROAD AND BULL LANE, AYLESFORD: an area of open farmland providing an attractive setting to Aylesford and Eccles and a foreground to the North Downs;

ai. WEST OF BURHAM: an absence of trees and hedgerows contributes towards the special character of this open undulating countryside which provides an attractive setting to Burham;

aj. BETWEEN WOULDHAM AND PETERS PIT: a predominantly open area contributing to the rural setting of Wouldham from the south;

ak. BETWEEN THE M2 AND THE SOUTHERN PERIPHERAL ROAD, WALDERSLADE: an attractive heavily wooded area which both defines and conceals development at Walderslade;

al. BETWEEN THE M2 AND THE MEDWAY TOWNS BUILT UP AREA, BRIDGEWOOD: a predominantly open area important to the setting of the Medway Towns.
